Bioblitz
WHAT IS IT?
BioBlitz is a 24 hour long "scavenger hunt", using the application iNaturalist in order to record as many species as possible. Participants will be competing to record the most species, in order to win select prizes and help track the biodiversity in the Santa Rita Mountains!
Over the course of this event, various wildlife experts and professors will be leading tours that teach about the different ecosystems of the Santa Rita Experimental Range. These tours will help to identify, collect, and count as many flora and fauna species as possible. You can decide what tours you'd like to attend, however it is important to know that most have a limited number of spots, so it's first come first serve! The more diverse the species pool you capture, the higher your chances are of winning. Top three recorders will be awarded by the club, please sign up on our iNaturalist page to participate in the event.
CAMPING/SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
There are areas to camp as you are not expected to stay up the entire time, and you can rent camping equipment from Outdoor Rec. There will also be rentable cabins in the area though those will be an additional charge. (Contact @uafishandwildlife for more info regarding cabins.)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
During the event, there may be opportunities for animal handling; however you will be required to have a hunting license if handling. This is both for our safety and the wildlifes, as these legal regulations are put into place to ensure we can continue to interact with the world around us, and keep hosting events just like these.
A hunting license is about $37.00 and can be purchased at the AZ Game and Fish website or adversely, a combo deal for $57 will get you a hunting and fishing licence.
Carpooling to the event is strongly advised, however there is a sign up sheet to be transported by vans provided by the club. There are limited seats for different transportation times so reserve your seat now.
