Elizabeth EbadiRad

President.

Major: Natural Resources with an Emphasis in Wildlife Management and Conservation with a certificate in Rangeland Management, Senior.

Hello, my name is Elizabeth EbadiRad and I am honored to be the president of the University of Arizona’s Fish and Wildlife Student Chapter. I use they/them/their pronouns and a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and I am an avid supporter of queer wildlife and fisheries biologists in the field. I am a senior in the School of Natural Resources majoring in Natural Resources with an Emphasis in Wildlife Management and Conservation with a certificate in Rangeland Management. I grew up in southwestern Arizona where the traditionally thought of sandy desert landscape is quite plentiful. From my environmental upbringing, I have an adoration for protecting the delicate desert ecosystem and the flora and fauna that live there.

I am a Pathways Intern at the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) in Arizona and I have had a plethora of opportunities to work with many amazing people in the agency. I am also conducting my own diet research of the Variable Banded Sandsnake (Chilomeniscus strmineus) in the Goode lab on the UA campus to determine what they eat and add more to the existing literature; my ultimate goal is to publish my findings. My current plan is to work with the NRCS for a few years and then go on to get my Masters in Human Dimensions at possibly Colorado State University. I then plan on getting my PhD, possibly in a speciality of Human Dimensions, someplace internationally and focus on international wildlife issues. I hope to bring back my knowledge to share with the next generation so that we can better improve how we take care of the Earth.

Gus Brown

Treasurer.

Major: Ecology and Evolutionary Biology with a minor in History

My name is Gus Brown and I am originally from Huston Texas, but I have fallen in love with Arizona and all of the wildlife out here. As the treasurer I hope to find new ways to raise money for the club, so that we can take our students on fun trips and provide them with valuable experiences, like the ones that inspired me to take on this position.

Dalton Sonnenberg

Historian.

Major: Natural Resources - Wildlife Conservation and Management, Senior

My name is Dalton Sonnenberg and I will be the club’s historian for the 2022-23 school year! I’m currently a senior majoring in Natural Resources with an emphasis in Wildlife Conservation & Management. I have always been interested in the natural world and knew I wanted to be a wildlife biologist since 8th grade. My favorite outdoor activities include hiking, backpacking, and just simply looking for any cool animals. I specifically like birds and reptiles, so living in Arizona has been a lot of fun. I plan to receive my B.S. in the spring of 2023 and then pursue a Master’s and perhaps even a PhD in Wildlife Biology after that (hopefully at the UofA). My ultimate goal is to either be a herpetologist in Arizona/California, or an ornithologist in Hawaii.

Ramine Mohebbi

Secretary.

Major: Natural Resources with an emphasis in Wildlife Conservation and Management

My name is Ramine Mohebbi (he/him) and I will be your 2022-23 UAFWS secretary! I am a freshman studying Natural Resources with an emphasis in Wildlife Conservation and Management. I was born in Burkina Faso, a small country in West Africa, and I’ve been fascinated with fish and wildlife from a young age. I have been involved in numerous wildlife volunteer activities throughout highschool including Scottsdale Community College’s Center for Native and Urban Wildlife (CNUW)  and hope to continue to be involved alongside my fellow members as we volunteer throughout the school year. I also intend to apply and take part in the Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program. I plan to get a PhD in Wildlife Conservation or a similar major in addition to my Bachelors here at the University of Arizona and eventually become a wildlife biologist for a government agency or an NGO in either Utah or Colorado. I’m excited to work with you all to help conserve our fish and wildlife and create future leaders that will help save our planet!

Social Media Chair.

Major: Veterinary Science, minor in Chemistry and Psychology, Senior

My name is Jolynn Fleming (she/her) but you can call me Jo! What got me interested in wildlife is my background with animals. I've done some rehabilitation work with wild animals and it is my absolute favorite! I was also able to get an animal behavioral internship at the Reid park zoo in Tucson where I was able to study giraffes and how they behave in captivity and if there is anything we could do differently to improve their lives at the zoo. I am a transfer student from Mesa Community college where I got my associates in Science and did Pole Vault on the track and Field team. I transferred here in 2021 where I decided to major in veterinary science. Its been a long journey and I'm still not sure what I want to do with my career, but my current goal is to be able to work with animals at a zoo and to be able to analyze and improve their behavior in captivity. I am thinking about going to grad school as well, I'm just not sure for what specifically yet. I hope some of you reading this can relate with the struggle of not knowing what to do as a future career, and the advice I have for that is to get out there and take as many opportunities ass possible because you never know what you'll like until you try it.
